From a Press Release from the Washington State Patrol
During the early morning hours on November 14, 2010, an on duty military police officer observed an erratically driven vehicle NB I-5 near Bridgeport with severe lane travel. The MP, unable to initiate a traffic stop, followed the vehicle as he reported his location to WSP dispatchers. A trooper was able to intercept the vehicle near 112th and Pacific and stopped it on 10th Ave Court and 112th Avenue East. After determining the driver was impaired, Adam King, a 21 year old male from Texas stationed at JBLM, was arrested for DUI. The trooper determined the man's 21 year old wife was also intoxicated, and as the stop occurred in front of the couple's apartment complex, she was released and went into her apartment after having been warned not to drive
The trooper transported Mr. King to the WSP district office in Tacoma for processing. After completing the processing of Mr. King, the trooper was escorting him out of the office intending to release him when he observed Mr. King's wife driving into the parking lot in a different vehicle. Knowing from his previous contact with her that she was intoxicated, the trooper contacted her. She told the trooper she was there to pick up her husband. Instead, the trooper arrested Sara King for DUI in the parking lot of the WSP office.
The couple had been out celebrating the husbands return from deployment overseas. As a result of their poor choices, they both have DUI charges pending. This situation could have been avoided by simply getting a taxi, calling a sober friend, or celebrating at home. Now, the couple will face thousands of dollars in fines and fees if convicted.
