On November 3rd an Anacortes police officer had to brake hard and swerve to avoid colliding with a vehicle that failed to stop for the stop sign on 20th Street at Commercial Avenue. The officer then stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as a 52-year-old Anacortes woman. The woman smelled strongly of intoxicants, handed the officer a credit card instead of her license, and fumbled through several documents looking for her registration before realizing it was in her hand. She had sluggish movements and bloodshot eyes and admitted she had "four drinks." She failed field sobriety tests and was arrested despite trying to mildly resist. She was processed for drunk driving and provided breath samples that were approximately two and a half times the legal limit. She was cited for DUI and released to a sober friend.
