The look of Seattle Municipal Court is going to change a bit, as the two incumbents who were challenged for reelection were both losing by wide margins on Tuesday night. Presiding Judge Edsonya Charles was losing big to Ed McKenna, who was getting nearly 70 percent of the vote for Position No. 1. Judge Michael Hurtado was also losing big for Position No. 6, as Karen Donohue had accumulated over 73 percent of the vote.

Position No. 1: - Ed McKenna 62,831 69.77%
- Edsonya Charles 27,000 29.98%
- Write-in 229 0.25%
Position No. 6: - Karen Donohue 64,438 73.84%
- Michael Hurtado 22,584 25.88%
- Write-in 242 0.28%
What is interesting is the two incumbent Judges who lost, Charles and Hurtado, were thought to have had their own personal agendas rule their court room. This was evident in their practice and evident in their opinions rendered. The last time I was in front of Judge Charles was during a Jury trial earlier this year. Every possible ruling or objection was in favor of the prosecuting attorney yet, despite this, our client prevailed. The bench is not the place for personal vendettas and a purely subjective practice, it is the place for justice, and justice is supposed to be blind. So good bye to Edsonya Charles and Michael Hurtado - and good riddance.
