Snohomish County DUI Attorney: Does food and mouth alcohol affect a BAC reading?

Testing of mouth alcohol and food on breath tests!  In the legal community a breath test is only valid if the subject has not consumed any liquid or food (or placed other foreign objects in their mouth) for a certain period of time before providing a sample of breath.  This waiting period is at least 15 minutes (more in some jurisdictions).  The idea is that this period allows contaminants such as mouth alcohol or certain foods to absorb into the system so they do not provide false positives (ie. higher BAC readings).  These truths or falicies will be tested by my firm in the weeks ahead and BAC readings involving certain foods and mouth alcohol will be obtained and reported.  Check back in the next few weeks for the results.
