A 21-year-old man was critically injured in a crash early Friday morning, and police suspect alcohol and speed were to blame.
Bellevue police say it was just after 1:15 a.m. when they were told of a crash in the 13900 block of NE 8th Street. When officers and medics arrived, they found the man badly injured inside a Jeep Cherokee.
Detectives believe the Jeep was heading east on NE 8th when it left the road and struck a cement light pole, then hit a tree. The impact knocked the pole over.
The driver was sent to Overlake Hospital in Bellevue with obvious head injuries, but later had to be transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he was listed in critical condition as of Friday evening.
