In Washington State, and particularly in Snohomish County, King County, Skagit County and Island County, DUI arrests were well down from last year during the holiday season. Chief John Batiste also says the number of DUIs was down from 192 last year to 165 in 2010. So, does this mean fewer drunk drivers on the roads as some of the reports may lead you to believe? NO - of course not. Despite the hype for Target Zero and the usual rhetoric, the reason for fewer DUIs in these counties is simply one of economics and budget cuts. Fewer officers on the road in Snohomish County and Skagit County for instance, means less enforcement and fewer DUIs. Simple - but don't believe the hype that DUI drivers are fewer because they are not.
