DUI Driver stopped in Skagit County for burned out taillight

In Skagit County a witness reported a possible drunk driver speeding on Highway 20 coming into Anacortes just after midnight. An officer stopped the car in the 2700 block of Commercial Avenue for a burned out taillight. The driver, a 22-year-old Hope Island man, smelled strongly of alcohol and had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. He allegedly admitted drinking at a bar in Bellingham. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on a charge of DUI. He provided breath samples more than twice the legal limit. He was cited and released to a sober friend. Court date for this Skagit County DUI is pending.
