Letter from the City of Burlington Chief of Police
The Burlington Police Department is an organization of professional men and women dedicated to providing our citizens and the many visitors to our community with quality law enforcement. The department consists of 27 allocated commissioned police officers, 1 code enforcement officer, and 5 civilian support staff.
The Burlington Police Department serves a residential population of nearly 8,120 which dramatically under represents the activity of the 40,000 to 60,000 people attracted to our commercial retail center and the transportation corridors that intersect in our community.
Our community continues to face explosive growth in both commercial and residential development resulting in increased traffic and congestion, new crime challenges, and a never-ending cry for new community outreach. We recognize that the growth of the department is contingent upon public confidence in our abilities to meet our mission and to work collaboratively with the public. As the demands for police service expand, we strive to continually improve our abilities to perform our duties and to expand community partnerships. I am very proud of the men and women of your police department.
Please feel free to call the Burlington Police Department with any questions or concerns you may have about our service.
Bill Van Wieringen
Chief of Police
