Everett Lynnwood Snohomish County DUI Attorney: In praise of the DUI Officer
It has come to my attention, again, that certain Troopers may not love these blogs and my characterization of them. My general reaction is too bad, you're public figures, I'm not mentioning your names, and errors should be noted. However, equally important to note is that I'm not always critical.
Moreover I think it's important that law enforcement also be praised when due. Tough pill for a DUI defense attorney to swallow but the truth is, the hardest job in DUI law is the officer's (or Deputy or Trooper). I certainly wouldn't want to do their job and then have it scrutinized by a DUI defense attorney. Moreover, to do what they do, at night, and dealing with the occasional intoxicated individual while testing their sobriety, or lack thereof, is a difficult task.
Most law enforcement do their job very well and make few mistakes. My criticism has only ever focused on two things, first honesty (be honest and do not exaggerate!!) and second, law enforcement are not trained well enough. In fact, many in law enforcement agree that the training received is substandard (more on that in a future blog).
This DUI detection training is by no means the fault of the everyday officer, and for that they cannot be criticized.
