Everett Lynnwood Snohomish County DUI Attorney: Don't press your luck of the Irish – DUI Patrols out in full force
Law enforcement throughout Mason County begins a ten-day DUI emphasis for St. Patrick's Day Friday. The emphasis is funded through the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. Participating agencies are the Shelton and Squaxin Island Police Departments, the Mason County Sheriff's Office and the Washington State Patrol. This emphasis runs through March 20th. During last year's emphasis, a total number of nine DUI arrests were made in Mason County. In Washington State, the most frequent factor contributing to traffic deaths is still driver impairment, not only by alcohol and illegal drugs but over-the-counter medications. In 2009, traffic crashes killed 491 people on Washington's roadways. Impaired drivers accounted for nearly 54% (53.8%) or 264 deaths. Another factor is the time of day: more than two-thirds of impaired-driver-involved fatal collisions occurred during nighttime hours (6 pm to 6 am) (67.4% from 2000-2009).
