Anacortes Skagit County DUI Attorney: Anacortes Police Arrest Blotter for February 16th

Anacortes Skagit County DUI Attorney:  Anacortes Police Arrest Blotter for February 16th

Officers responded to the report of a fight in progress at a bar in the 7600 block of Highway 20 around 10:36 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10.

An Anacortes man reported he was in the restroom when another man entered and repeatedly punched him for no apparent reason. The victim said the other man asked him if he knew who he was before hitting him.

Another Anacortes man seated at the bar said the suspect walked by him and also punched him without provocation. Witnesses helped identify the suspect, a 45-year-old Anacortes resident, who left before officers arrived. An officer later spoke with the suspect who said the man he confronted in the bathroom had been saying derogatory things about his girlfriend. The suspect claimed the other man grabbed him first and started the fight.

Officers are still getting statements from the involved parties before making a charging decision.

Among the other 205 cases handled by Anacortes police during the previous week:

• Separate witnesses reported that a car heading into Anacortes on Highway 20 was swerving all over the roadway around 1:35 p.m. Another witness reported the same vehicle swerving on 32nd Street. An officer stopped the vehicle near 32nd Street and D Avenue. The driver, a 72-year-old Anacortes woman, smelled strongly of alcohol and had slurred speech and droopy eyes. An open bottle of wine reportedly was on the front passenger seat and a thermos containing wine was in a cup holder near the driver.

The woman said she had very little to drink and was driving "fine." She was unable to stand without leaning against her car and tried to grab the portable breath test machine away from the officer's hand. After she was arrested on a charge of DUI, she reportedly shrieked at officers and tried to pull away from them. She was taken to the police station where she told the arresting officer she was an attorney before admitting she was actually a real estate agent. She was uncooperative during processing but provided breath samples about two and a half times the legal limit. She continued to say she was not intoxicated. She was cited and released to a sober relative.

• An Anacortes woman who was walking with a friend in the 2600 block of 17th Street was bitten in the leg by a golden retriever mix dog that ran across the street from its yard. The dog did not have a current dog license nor was it current on its vaccinations. The dog owner took the dog to the pound to be quarantined for 10 days and the victim obtained a tetanus shot. The dog owner was cited for her dog running at large and having no license. She had been warned before about her dog running loose.

• A 20-year-old Bellingham man was arrested on a charge of reckless driving after an officer clocked him on radar traveling 97 miles per hour in a 40 mph speed zone on Havekost Road around 10:48 p.m. The driver told the officer he knew he was going that fast but he gave no reason for his excessive speed.
