The following pre-exit observations an officer is trained to detect.
SIGHT
Trained DUI officers are actively observing drivers of motor vehicles throughout the DUI process. NHTSA advises that there are a number of potential clues that officers are looking for during the initial contact and subsequent interview with the driver that would be perceived as evidence of alcohol and/or drug impairment. According to NHTSA these observable clues may include:
. bloodshot eyes;
. soiled clothing;
. fumbling fingers;
. alcohol containers;
. drugs or drug paraphernalia;
. bruises, bumps or scratches;
. unusual actions.
