Bellevue King County DUI Attorney: Washington State Trooper hurt in DUI accident
BELLEVUE, Wash. -- A Washington state trooper and two DUI suspects were hospitalized after a chain reaction crash on Interstate 405 near State Route 520 Thursday night.
Washington State Patrol spokesperson Julie Startup said a trooper, identified as Michael Porter, had pulled over a suspected drunk driver in a BMW on I-405 at SR 520 just before midnight.
The trooper and the driver were standing outside their vehicles as the trooper was reading his rights, when a woman driving a green Acura slammed into the back of the trooper's patrol car, which pushed into the back of the BMW.
The trooper and the male driver, a 32-year-old man from Bellingham, were struck by the hood of the BMW when it was pushed forward.
The suspected DUI driver, the trooper and the woman suffered potentially serious injuries in the crash. All three were taken to Overlake Hospital in Bellevue. Porter suffered injuries mostly to his leg; he has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
The woman, a 26-year-old from Shoreline, will be investigated for DUI and vehicular assault.
