Washington State DUI Lawyer: The DUI Investigation Handbook

Washington State DUI Lawyer:  The DUI Investigation Handbook

The following is an excerpt from the recently published The DUI Investigation Handbook.  This most valuable DUI Investigation book details in its 145 pages the entire DUI Investigation process law enforcement officers use to detect and investigate DUI drivers.  The DUI Investigation Handbook is available at over 100 locations including Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com.  David N. Jolly is the author of 5 DUI books and the first DUI App for iTunes in the United States.  His next book, The Drug DUI Handbook, is due for release in September, 2011, and is the first book of its kind in the United States.  Look for excerpts in late August, 2011.

The following pre-exit observations an officer is trained to detect.

SMELL

The third sense that DUI officers use in the DUI detection process is the sense of smell. NHTSA informs officers of certain odors to look for during the interview that would be describable clues or evidence of possible alcohol and/or drug impairment. Such smells typically include:

. alcoholic beverages;

. marijuana;

. "cover up" odors like breath sprays;

. unusual odors.
