Jolly is the author of 5 DUI books and the first DUI App for iTunes in the United States. His next book, The Drug DUI Handbook, is due for release in September, 2011, and is the first book of its kind in the United States. Look for excerpts in late August, 2011.
PHASE TWO: PERSONAL CONTACT
Once an office r has made a lawful stop of the suspected impaired driver, or otherwise has reason to contact the driver, he then will be looking for signs of possible impairment. This personal contact is the second phase of DUI detection. The initial observations of a DUI driver by an officer typically refer to the driver showing signs of suspected intoxication. These observations include odor of alcohol, slurred speech, red/watery eyes, flushed face and so on. From the beginning of DUI detection researchers have attempted to find a connection between the initial observations and the possible DUI driver.
