Anacortes Skagit County DUI Lawyer: Anacortes DUIs and a Pygmy Goat

An iPhone and iPod were reported stolen from a cupboard in a popular coffee house in the 2100 block of Commercial Avenue around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 29. The iPod was used with the coffee shop sound system to play music.

The staff reported that a thin black male, who appeared to be in his early 20s, came into the shop around 9:30 a.m., sat at a table near the cabinet and used the wireless Internet. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and carried a backpack with a laptop in it.

The staff thought the man was behaving suspiciously.

About 10:30 a.m. the staff noticed the music stopped and went to change the play list. They found the iPod was missing. The man left before police were called.

Among the other 189 cases handled by Anacortes police during the previous week:

• A delivery truck struck a parked pickup truck in a parking lot in the 1300 block of Q Avenue around 8:50 a.m. A witness saw the driver get out, inspect the damage and then drive off. Police were able to track down the truck and driver to an egg company in Briar. The driver may be charged with hit and run.

• Residents in the 3300 block of Field Avenue called police after a very friendly pygmy goat appeared in their neighborhood. The goat had a collar on but no identification. Police received a call from the owner about an hour later and reunited the goat with its owner, who lives in the 1800 block of 32nd Street.

• A resident in the 1300 block of 30th Street reported a child's bicycle and a Black and Decker cordless drill were taken from the garage after the garage door was mistakenly left open all night. A five gallon gas can found in the driveway of the house did not belong to the resident.

• A resident in the 1100 block of Longview Avenue reported his KTM 690 motorcycle was stolen from his driveway. The $8,000 red enduro-style motorcycle has a Washington license plate 6A6844.

• An officer on routine patrol saw a vehicle westbound on Seventh Street from N Avenue weaving and traveling slowly around 11 p.m. The officer stopped the car and noticed an unusually heavy amount of cigarette smoke emitting from the passenger compartment. The driver exhibited signs of intoxication and reportedly told the officer he would not take any voluntary field sobriety tests because he was drunk. The 56-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on a charge of DUI and taken to the police station for a breath test.

• A couple visiting friends in the 4000 block of Jasper Way returned to their unlocked car around 11:44 p.m. and found it had been prowled sometime since 7 p.m. A wallet with credit cards and ID was taken. A witness saw a black full-sized Dodge truck in the area around 9 p.m.

Sunday, March 27

• A man left his car unlocked while visiting a friend in the area of R Avenue and Fidalgo Avenue between 2 and 2:45 a.m. Sunday. He returned to find a Cannon Power Shot camera and a Virgin Mobile cellular phone had been taken from a backpack in the vehicle.

• Officers responded to a disturbance call in the 1500 block of K Avenue around 3:51 a.m. As they arrived they saw someone throwing large bags of trash out the door onto a lawn. Another man who appeared to have come from the residence told officers there was a guy running away down the alley. Officers contacted a 19-year-old Anacortes man in the alley. He was bleeding from the mouth and exhibited signs of intoxication.

Witnesses said the young man had been in the home drinking with several adults when he became belligerent. He was punched in the mouth by the 39-year-old man who resides at the home. In turn, the younger man picked up some garbage and threw it. The younger man declined to press assault charges but was issued an underage drinking citation. The older man had a warrant for failing to appear in court on a DUI charge. He was arrested and later released on his promise to appear in court.

• Four gaming systems valued at more than $500 and video game cartridges valued at more than $400 were taken from a home in the 2000 block of H Avenue between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Sunday. • An 18-year-old Mount Vernon man will be charged with malicious mischief after a woman in the 1300 block of 29th Street found the rear window of her van broken out. An officer found a note on a brick inside the van that indicated the vandalism was committed in retaliation for something the woman's son did. Officers were told the woman's 18-year-old son is involved in online gaming and recently had a dispute with the Mount Vernon man over a game. Officers examined some comments from the online game as well as some text messages that implicate the Mount Vernon man.

Hospital staff's description of the patient they saw was very different from the appearance of the reporting party. The investigation continues.

• A resident in the 1200 block of Sixth Street reported his 1994 Red Honda Prelude with Washington license plate ACS0606 was stolen from in front of his home. The man had no idea who would have taken it and did not owe money on it so it wasn't repossessed.
