Starting tomorrow, October 14, 2010, the National DUI Convention is taking place in Las Vegas. For DUI Defense Attorneys this is a great way to learn new creative ways to defend their clients and also be brought up to speed on new legal issues, defenses, and court rulings. However, while these attorneys are away learning, they still have clients in their home states that need attention. Good attorneys plan for this. In my case I have another attorney who works for me that will appear, if need be, with my clients in court. I also have staff who will remain at the office and help clients in my absence. Further, I will be available to my clients each afternoon if need be. Seems obvious, right? Well, it is. This is the key to thorough representation and good service. However, not all attorneys have planned well and some attorneys are leaving clients without representation in court. Although this is sometimes unavoidable (ie. emergencies) it is unacceptable to leave clients without representation when the attorney has months to prepare. The moral of the story is, if you are hiring a DUI attorney for your Skagit County DUI (or Mount Vernon DUI, Burlington DUI , or Anacortes DUI) ask the attorney at the beginning, “if you are not available in case of any emergency or conflict, who will be with me in court?” If the answer is, “I don’t know” or “we’ll find you someone,” move on. These are signs of bad service and it is unacceptable.
