Police are seeking help in identifying a woman who allegedly illegally withdrew more than $2,500 from a man's checking account.
A resident from the 1000 block of 20th Street reported on Tuesday, Jan. 11, his checking account had been compromised and money withdrawn at two cash machines at local banks and the card was used at a local gas station.
Officers recovered one surveillance photo of a woman accessing the account at a local cash machine. They are following up on leads in the case.
Officers are asking for the public's help in identifying the woman.

Friday, Jan. 7
• A 19-year-old Anacortes man faces two counts of theft after a relative reported he just left a home 1700 block of 28th Street with an Xbox gaming system and laptop computer. They also believed he took a snowboard jacket, a stereo amplifier and a small flat-screen TV. Officers caught up with the man a short time later. He reportedly said he took some of the items over a period of a week and traded them for drugs. He recovered the laptop and it was returned.
Saturday, Jan. 8
• A resident in the 1300 block of 34th Street called police after hearing a prowler around 1:44 a.m. Officers arrived and found a door to the attached storage shed was kicked open. However, the strike appeared to come from inside the door. Another officer contacted a 23-year-old transient man a short distance away. The man reportedly told the officer he accidentally locked himself inside the shed and kicked the door in order to get out. He was booked into the jail on a charge of burglary.
• A 39-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on a charge of DUI after a vehicle collision in the 800 block of 30th Street around 5:40 a.m. A witness told officers he heard a loud noise outside and saw a car in the ditch across the street and a parked car on the street that looked like it had been struck. The driver was taken to the hospital and treated for facial injuries. A blood sample was taken for alcohol testing. After being treated he was booked into jail.
• A resident in the 3200 block of M Avenue reported an expensive flower pot was broken overnight. It turns out officers had already arrested the culprit. The man arrested in an earlier burglary also reportedly told officers he broke the flower pot.
• A 32-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on a charge of theft after leaving a grocery store in the 900 block of 11th Street with a cart full of groceries valued at more than $350. An employee saw the man and a small boy pushing the cart out of the parking lot around 1:15 p.m. and tried to catch up to them. The man abandoned the cart, picked up the small child and ran off. Officers watched the store's surveillance tape and recognized the man from prior contacts. He was contacted a short time later and cited.
• A 62-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on a charge of DUI after an officer pulled him over around 4:15 p.m. in a parking lot in the 900 block of 11th Street to warn him about having expired license tabs. The officer noticed the man exhibited obvious signs of intoxication and his license was also suspended. He was arrested and taken to the police station for a breath alcohol test, which was more than double the legal limit.
• An elderly man was stuck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross the street at 32nd Street and Commercial Avenue around 5:28 p.m. Witnesses told officers the light was red and oncoming traffic had the right of way when the man stepped out into the street. Fortunately the elderly man sustained only minor facial injuries.
Sunday, Jan. 9
• A 34-year-old Anacortes man was treated and released from the hospital following a fight that erupted outside an establishment in the 300 block of Commercial Avenue around 2:05 a.m. The incident started in the bar when another man allegedly inappropriately touched a woman who was there with a group of friends. The 34-year-old confronted the other man and suggested that they fight. The victim and witnesses told officers several men came out with the suspect and knocked the victim to the ground and stomped on him. The investigation continues.
• A 51-year-old Anacortes man was arrested on a charge of DUI after he disobeyed the right turn only signs on O Avenue at 12th Street. He reportedly accelerated rapidly, turned onto I Avenue and parked his vehicle partially on the sidewalk on the north side of the roadway facing oncoming traffic. Officers noticed obvious signs of intoxication when contacting the man, who refused to submit to field sobriety tests. He was arrested and taken to the police station for a breath test.
Monday, Jan. 10
• An 18-year-old man was cited for negligent driving and malicious mischief after he was caught "rooting around" in his Jeep in the grassy area in front of the city shop around 12:25 a.m. The man and two juvenile passengers had been driving on the snow-covered lawn and caused extensive damage to the grass.
• A 2009 9-horsepower Suzuki outboard was taken from a boat in dry storage in the 600 block of 30th Street. Thieves did about $500 worth of damage to the fuel and hydraulic lines when they cut them to remove the motor.
Tuesday, Jan. 11
• A 57-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested on a charge of DUI after police responded to a report of a car blocking traffic on Oakes Avenue at Anacopper Road around 6 p.m. Witnesses reported a woman was standing next to the car. Officers saw the car as it was turning around in a nearby driveway and followed it eastbound. It turned onto Hartford without signaling and entered the northbound lane of traffic going southbound. After officers were to stop the car, the driver reportedly told officers she was really intoxicated and could not perform field sobriety tests. She showed signs of intoxication and reportedly had an open container of alcohol in her car. She was arrested and transported to the police station for a breath test.
Wednesday, Jan. 12
• An Anacortes woman complained she and her husband were being hounded by a phone scam artist. The woman explained someone claiming to be with the American Dream Foundation called and wanted $7,000 in order for them to receive their $793,000 prize. The woman thought it was a scam and told the caller no thanks. She received three more calls from the company, all early in the morning. The phone number is from a Henderson, Nev., number. An officer called the number and asked them to stop calling and warned that further calls could result in prosecution.
• A 60-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for violating a no-contact order. Police received a call from a woman who stated there was a court order prohibiting the man from coming within 100 yards of a shop on Commercial Avenue where she works. She told officers she was just behind the shop and the man was there. He made no attempts to walk away and just looked at her. She walked back into the shop and called police. Officers contacted the man at his residence and he reportedly admitted being in the area and seeing the woman.
