Lynnwood DUI Attorney: Suspected DUI driver not drunk but dead

A 68-year-old man was found dead in his car after it started down the wrong way on an Interstate 5 offramp in Lynnwood Tuesday evening.

The man may have died from a medical problem before the car drifted off the ramp and came to a stop without hitting any other vehicles or objects, said Washington State Trooper Mark Francis.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating.
Francis said the man appeared to have been driving on
Witnesses found the man unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A measure that would stiffen sentencing laws for driving under the influence has cleared the Washington Legislature.

A measure that would stiffen sentencing laws for driving under the influence has cleared the Washington Legislature.

House Bill 1789, which broadens the prosecution of felony DUI, now goes to Gov. Chris Gregoire for approval.
The News Tribune says the bill would make any subsequent DUI conviction a felony, if an offender has a prior felony DUI conviction. The measure also requires a person convicted of alcohol-related reckless driving or negligent driving to install a device that prevents a car from starting if alcohol is detected.
